Health and medical services are available throughout The Territory, with a variety of public and private general practices, clinics and hospitals to deliver these services.
The Top End now has three hospitals including Royal Darwin Hospital, Darwin Private Hospital and the Territory's newest hospital, Palmerston Regional Hospital which provides quality new facilities for the growing Palmerston and rural area populations.
There are hospitals in all major regional centres including Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine and Gove and services in outreaching areas are provided through a widespread network of remote health clinics.
Royal Darwin and Alice Springs hospitals have a wide range of specialist services. Both are teaching hospitals aligned with Adelaide’s Flinders University.
Additional services include the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre, CareFlight, St John Ambulance and Day Surgeries.
Private dentists, general medical practitioners, specialists and allied healthcare professionals like physiotherapists, optometrists and pharmacists practise in the major towns. They regularly visit remote communities.
